The Launch

For those looking to purchase the iPad 2, get ready.

In just two hours, Apple's next-gen tablet becomes available for online ordering on Apple's Canada website. In the U.S., line-ups began a week before the launch and lasted until a week after, so if you have a job, school, or life, you'll probably want to order it online and let it ship. America saw initial shipping dates deliver iPads within a week of ordering, but it very quickly jumped to a five week shipping date, partially spurred by shipment issued triggered by the devastation in Japan. However, this shipping period has since cooled to a slightly more reasonable two to three weeks.

Countries outside of the U.S. that have already had the iPad 2 launch, such as Australia and New Zealand, are experiencing the same shipping period out of the gate—about two to three weeks. Again, this seems like a long wait but the in-store line-ups are not only much more time and effort, but also completely non-guaranteed. Still, if you want to (try to) get one sooner, head down to your nearest Apple retailer as early as possible in the morning. Stores will make the device available at 5pm.

The Cost

Thanks to the strength of the Canadian dollar, iPad 2 prices north of the border are only $20 more.

  • 16 GB wi-fi: $519.
  • 32 GB wi-fi: $619.
  • 64 GB wi-fi: $719.
  • 16 GB with 3G:$649.
  • 32 GB with 3G: $749.
  • 64 GB with 3G: $849.

All models are available in both black and white.

The Accessory

Apple iPad Smart Covers don't have Canadian prices, but considering the U.S. version costs $39, it's safe to say the Canadian covers will cost either $39 or at most $45. Smart Covers are available in 10 diverse colours, from black and grey to pink and orange.
