The Department of Canadian Heritage’s Trade Routes program, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, and the Canadian Interactive Alliance is offering up to $687 in support to 20 Canadian firms interested in attending the South By Southwest Interactive Festival (SXSW) in Austin, TX from March 7th to 11th.
Here’s how it works: you pay the costs of your attendance up front (including airfare, conference registration, hotel, ground transportation and meals), then submit the receipts as soon as you can after your trip. Spaces will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. More information is available here.
Official Canadian delegates presenting at SXSW include Kris Krug from Raincity Studios, Steve Bocska from Hothead Games, Jennifer Ouano from Elastic Entertainment, Ron Thiele from Xpan Interactive, and Keith Clarkson from Xenophile Media.

[...] Rob at Techvibes and Jevon at StartupNorth have both covered this cool effort by the Canadian government to get more Canadians done South to SXSW next month: Tomorrow morning at 9am (Friday, February 8th 2008) there will be a meeting at Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada’s Toronto offices (151 Young St, 3rd floor boardroom) to discuss their subsidy for any companies who are going to be going to SxSW. From what I understand, there was a meeting about it in Montreal today. I am trying to get some more information and will post back what I can find.
