GigPark Demos then Launches

DemoCampToronto17 took place last night and by all accounts it was a huge success. Around 400 attendees took in 5 demos and a handful of ignite presentations. SceneCaster, PlanetEye, AskItOnline, GigPark, and a presentation on .NET development on a Mac by Geoff Norton filled the Demo slots and the highlight of the ignite presentations was Thomas Purves presentation on the state of wireless in Canada which received a standing ovation.

Hot on the heels of their demo, GigPark launched their social networking/online reviews start-up to the masses today. GigPark allows members to easily find services through recommendations from friends and from friends of friends.

GigPark is the brainchild of Noah Godfrey and Pema Hegan. The GigPark founders were the Founding Publisher and Founding Editor of Dose Magazine and came up with the concept when looking for an employment lawyer to review their termination package after Dose was closed. Apparently when one door closes, another one does open.

GigPark opened as invite-only in November 2007 and sat at #27 on our most recent Toronto Start-Up Index.  With a solid base of members, a popular Facebook application, and a growing list of recommendations ranging from doulas to mechanics, the site is open to everyone.

It was a great DemoCamp alright! There was even talk last night that it might have been the best one so far (but the beer could have had something to do with that).

When we domo'ed GigPark we gave the audience a special join link so they could automatically add Noah, Paul and I (3 of the GigPark team) as friends. This gives people access to a lot of the tech and startup related recommendations on GigPark.

If any TechVibes readers would like, they can use that link too: http://www.gigpark.com/join/democam
