Globe Conference puts spotlight on BC Cleantech

Last week in the Vancouver Sun, Fiona Anderson reported from the Globe 2010 Conference that Canada is a great place for clean technology. Anderson singled out BC in the West as one of the top places in the world for clean-technology deal-making, but she had plenty of support.

“Western Canada is the largest independent energy area in the free world,” said Wal van Lierop, president and CEO of Vancouver-based Chrysalix Energy Venture Capital, a member of a panel on new approaches for clean-tech venture funding. “When we talk about clean energy, you need to be part of that. We have a huge traditional energy industry that needs to clean up its act [and] there are tremendous deals around that.”

British Columbia is home to an emerging clean technology sector that is well positioned to be a source of world class innovation. According to Anderson, the Vancouver-area alone is responsible for more than 1,400 clean-tech companies.

Check out Xconomy Seattle's 37 company long A-Z List of Alternative Energy Players in BC published this time last year. It's a great list that includes Chrysalix Energy, Day4 Energy, and QuestAir Technologies.
