Goodnight Nexus One

I was looking forward to getting one. Really I was. This past Friday Google announced on then1ir blog that they will soon stop selling their Nexus One handset directly from their site.  

This week we received our last shipment of Nexus One phones. Once we sell these devices, the Nexus One will no longer be available online from Google. Customer support will still be available for current Nexus One customers. And Nexus One will continue to be sold by partners including Vodafone in Europe, KT in Korea, and possibly others based on local market conditions.

The Android OS seems to be popular however consumers (especially in North America) seem to want to purchase their Android-powered device from their local carrier rather than through Google.

What are your thoughts on this announcement?  Does this also spell the end of the Android OS?
