GridCentric - simplifying cluster management

There are many cool companies and people in the Toronto area.  Tim Smith of GridCentric is one of those people and companies.  GridCentric was founded in April, 2009 in Toronto, Ontario. The founders were students from the Computer Systems Lab at the University of Toronto. There, they worked on SnowFlock, the research project on which some of GridCentric's technology is based.  In September, 2009 GridCentric received investment from Rogers Ventures and joined their dynamic portfolio of companies which includes Thoora and Zoocasa.

I recently had the opportunity to chat with GridCentric's CEO Tim Smith.  Here is our quick conversation:

Tim - Hi Karim!

Hey Tim! It was great meeting you yesterday. Thanks for taking the time to speak with me for a few minutes.

Tim - Likewise! I always have time for friends in the community.  We love Techvibes and very much appreciate your spreading the word.

Thanks Tim! Why are you excited about GridCentric?

Tim - Our technology is a game-changer. Not only is it going to make people's lives better today, but it enables completely new ways of thinking about computation. My favorite thing is when we show our COPPER platform to virtualization and cloud computing experts, and at the end of the demo they shake their heads in disbelief.

In regards to working with the company; I get to work in a city I love, with a great team of incredibly smart people, on a technology that is so bleeding-edge that sometimes it scares me. What's not to be excited about?

True!  What's the value proposition of GridCentric?

Tim - Our platform, COPPER, is a cluster operating system.  It builds on recent advances in virtualization technology, along with a good helping of GridCentric magic, to make compute clusters more powerful, flexible, and easier to use, manage, and share.

Thanks for this Tim!
