GrowLab announces Jonathan Bixby as the new Executive Director

by Rob Lewis | Startups

Last month GrowLab announced that Jonathan Bixby was joining Mark Relph to become their second Entrepreneur-in-Residence.

This morning they announced that Bixby will be taking on more responsibility at the Gastown accelerator and will be taking over for Mike Edwards to become their new Executive Director.

A serial entrepreneur by nature, Bixby has a proven track record of building and selling companies and is coming off of the recent sale of Strangeloop to Radware.

Strangeloop was co-founded by twins Jonathan and Joshua Bixby in 2006 and went on to raise over $20 million in venture capital. The Bixby brothers previously co-founded IronPoint Technology, which was acquired by The Active Network in 2006.

Bixby clearly has intimate and timely knowledge of building and selling tech companies that will prove invaluable to the GrowLab teams. Bixby shared with Techvibes, "I am really excited to be a part of this great group. Mike Edwards has done a fantastic job of putting GrowLab in a solid position and I am eager to work with him and the rest of the team to continue the momentum."

Outgoing Executive Director Edwards - who will remain on the board of GrowLab - told Techvibes, "I am incredibly proud of the work that we have done at GrowLab to date and am excited for the next chapter as Jonathan brings his experience and energy to drive Growlab onward".

Edwards continued, "We have a great platform and team that will continue to deliver value to early stage founders as they navigate the long and arduous road from idea to growth".

Under Bixby's leadership, GrowLab will continue to grow but perhaps will a focus more on building and selling. His recent experience - even if only short-term - as an EiR should allow him to hit the ground running with a stable of companies he is very familiar with.

"What excites me most about the opportunity of being the Executive Director of GrowLab is working with the cohort companies. Spending my last month with Cognilab, Farm at Hand, Restly and Zeetl and watching their progress has been invigorating," said Bixby.

GrowLab was founded in 2011 by Boris Wertz, Debbie Landa, Leonard Brody, and Jason Bailey.
