The high speed rail symposium held Saturday in Kitchener has been labeled a success by event organizers. The symposium attracted a large number of guest speakers, and the council chambers was at capacity. The High Speed Rail Canada organization hopes to hold additional symposiums in the future, but for now the group is focusing on building up their website as a high speed rail resource, and building a bit of a grass routes movement with their recently launched Canada Needs High Speed Rail! Facebook Group.
The organization was successful in capturing the publics, businesses and the medias attention, opening the debate over the costs and benefits of a high speed rail line in Canada. The organizations symposium was featured in the Guelph Mercury, The Record, and the Globe and Mail. They also received some television coverage on Province Wide and CKCO TV News.
