HootSuite Acquires Seesmic for a Reported $16 Million

Rumour on the street yesterday over at TechCrunch was that Canadian social media superstar HootSuite was on the verge of acquiring Seesmic for a reported $16 million.

Techvibes can now confirm this morning that where there's smoke, there's fire. HootSuite announced this morning that they have acquired Seesmic.

Founded in 2008 by entrepreneur and investor Loïc Le Meur, Seesmic currently offers a product called Ping that lets you post to multiple social media accounts — Twitter, Facebook, Facebook Pages, LinkedIn — from its web or mobile app. Features include scheduling, a way to convert attachments to links, personalized groups, plus bookmarklet and email posting options.

Seesmic's offering is almost identical to HootSuite's toolbox which suggests that Seesmic may be shuttered as a product. But this should also make customer transition between the dashboards pretty seamless. As part of their announcement today HootSuite is inviting Seesmic’s business users to try a free 30 day trial of HootSuite Pro (which starts at $9.99/month there after)
