Hootsuite Lays Off 20 Employees as Part of ‘Global Reorganization,’ Continues Hiring

Hootsuite this week laid off 20 employees in Vancouver.

But the social media platform says it’s still growing fast, planning to hire more than 100 people in 2016.

The reason for the layoffs was not downsizing, Hootsuite says, but rather restructuring.

“Hootsuite has completed a global reorganization to create a simpler, more aligned business that is purpose-built to support our over 10 million customers, and scale to a multi-billion dollar enterprise,” the company’s corporate communications manager, Sandy Pell, told the Georgia Straight.

“With this reorganization, we have merged some business units and cut others, which unfortunately meant we had to transition around 20 Vancouver employees out of the business,” Pell added. “With this organizational change, our recent leadership additions and our continued focus on social innovation, Hootsuite is well positioned for success.”
