HootSuite Reaches Five Million Users as Growth Accelerates

UPDATE: HootSuite incorrectly reported its growth rate this morning—the company actually took five months to gain its last million members, not two. Still impressive, just not insane.

ORIGINAL: On Tuesday, we noticed that HootSuite hinted at the fact it had reached five million users. We can now confirm this via official word from the company.

But we think the big news coming from this Vancouver-based startup—if you can still call it that—isn't the number five million. It's the number two.

Why two? That's how many months it took HootSuite to gain its most recent million users. This is pretty significant, beacause the million before that took eight months. And because the first million took almost two years—10 times longer. This Canadian company is experiencing incredibly accelerated growth.

HootSuite is evidently everywhere now, too. Once favoured only by North Americans, the company's fastest growth regions are now in Europe and Asia. And despite the cutesy style of the now-iconic owl, HootSuite means serious business—the company's social dashboard is used by nearly 80% of Fortune 100 companies.

The company now has more than 250 employees after adding a whopping 150 this year alone. They've also opened a second office in the United Kingdom. Check out the infographic below for more impressive statistics.
