HootSuite Reveals Canada's Top Twitter Trends of 2011

Social media startup HootSuite recently revealed Canada's top twitter trends of 2011. At the top was the Grey Cup, the November football tradition which saw the BC Lions take a bite out of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Vancouver.

Using an algorithm balancing the cumulative duration of a trending topic of Twitter's top 10 and its actual rank throughout that duration, HootSuite determined the top 50 trends. Grey Cup trended for over 4 days, while Good Night Twitter - number two - spent nearly 7 days trending.

In third place was the infamous Rebecca Black, who was coincidentally followed by #WorstFeeling - probably the trending topic people posted after watching Rebecca's video. Other celebrity types included GSP, or Georges St-Pierre, and Don Cherry. Other hashtag trends included #RememberWhen and #TigerBlood.
