How to ensure your WP7 app is a success

So, you want to get your Windows Phone 7 app into the App Marketplace, eh? Well, how exactly are you going to do that?

First of all, you’re going to want to get access to the Marketplace by signing up for the App Hub. Once you’re registered for the Marketplace, you not only have the opportunity to sell your app to users of WP7, but you are able to reap other benefits as well. Free tools, information and support from both Microsoft and other developers are all yours once you’re a member of the App Hub. You can check out the App Hub here.

Next, you’ll want to check out the Certification Guidelines provided by Microsoft. These guidelines include valuable information about Microsoft policies and how to build a successful app. All you need to know about submitting an app to the Marketplace is here.

Okay — so you’ve read all the documentation, you’ve signed up for all the lists. How do you make sure that your app is going to succeed?

Hey, if I knew that, I’d be an app millionaire. But I know who does: the good folks at the Windows Phone Developer Blog. If you’re feeling lost, or need some tips or even just inspiration and new ideas, check this blog out. It’s very technical, so don’t expect App Development 101; but if you want to find out some more about what the capabilities of WP7 are, check out their blog here.

Aside from that... good luck! It’s a wild new space, and it’s yours to tame.
