HP Announces Haven Startup Accelerator

At the HP Big Data Conference in Boston this week, HP announced the HP Haven Startup Accelerator program, seeking to provide early-stage companies with affordable access to HP Big Data and Application Delivery Management software and services.

Through our Haven and Haven OnDemand platforms, we are empowering these heroes to transform their business through data by allowing them to harness the value of all forms of information, rapidly connect and apply open source, and quickly access the tools they need to build winning businesses.”

Haven is HPs big data platform that enables users to derive value from the ever-increasing volume and complexity of data. 

HP also announced a new version of Vertica, its SQL database, named Excavator. Vertica is the analytics platform designed to manage large volumes of data and provide rapid query performance when used for data warehouses and other query-intensive applications. 

The newly-released version’s capabilities include data-streaming analytics to quickly ingest and analyze high-speed streaming data, including the Internet of Things, in near real-time with the aim of providing actionable insight, particularly in manufacturing process control, supply chain optimization, healthcare monitoring, financial risk management, and fraud detection.

It also is capable of advanced machine log text search, enabling organizations to collect and index large log file data sets that are generated by systems and business applications.

Additionally, HP announced a series of innovations enabling organizations to combine the benefits of open source with HPs Big Data platform.

These include:

• HP Vertica for SQL on Hadoop native file support: HP, combined with Hortonworks, developed a new high-performance access layer that enables SQL queries to run directly on ORC files, with a  notable increase in execution times.

•  HP Vertica Flex Zone Table Library: The company has open sourced its Flex Table ‘schema-on-need’ technology to the global developer community.

• Native integration with Apache Spark: enabling accelerated data transfer between Vertica and Spark, enabling developers to build their models in Spark and run them in Vertica for high-speed analytics.
