IBM buys Markham neighbour Platform Computing
IBM announced today that they are acquiring Canadian neighbour Platform Computing - IBM Canada's headquarters are a couple hundred metres from Platform Computing Markham office.
Platform Computing provides cluster and grid management software, which aids clients managing shared computing environments and in data organization and analysis. Platform's applications are used in product development, finance, science and manufacturing, among other disciplines
"IBM considers the acquisition of Platform Computing to be a strategic element for the transformation of [high performance computing] into the high growth segment of technical computing and an important part of our smarter computing strategy," said Helene Armitage, general manager of IBM Systems Software.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, however with 500 employees in 15 offices worldwide, over 2,500 clients and revenues of over $70 million in 2010, Platform Computing didn't come cheap.
