RIM has received a 60 day window to address concerns raised by India government officials surrounding access to encrypted data. If the issues are not solved by then, it is expected that India will ban BlackBerry services countrywide.
The security concerns are primarily attributed to RIM's blackberry messenger services. Governments in the Middle East and Asia have voiced concerns that militant organizations are using the service to avoid detection.
India has made it clear that RIM will have to cease operations in the country if access to its messenger services are not granted to India law enforcement agencies. As of now, RIM has made certain proposals for lawful access to its messenger services by authorized parties.
India's Home Ministry department released the following statement:
"RIM has made certain proposals for lawful access by law enforcement agencies and this would be operationalised immediately. The feasibility of the solutions offered would be assessed thereafter."
