Indonesia Government Threatens to Shut Down BlackBerry
The Indonesia government has threatened to shut down RIM's BlackBerry data services in the country.
Indonesia is a very hot market for RIM, with consumers eagerly devouring BlackBerrys, but the government is not so fond of the company. The government has wanted since January a data centre in the country that could monitor data exchanges. RIM instead suggested a router positioned in neighbouring Singapore.
Saying that RIM is "not co-operative," Indonesia has stated that "it is possible that we will soon end BIS and BBM services," according to The Globe and Mail. This would put a major damper on the country's six million BlackBerry users.
The bad news follows a forced name change of its next-gen mobile operating platform and bad PR from two extremely drunk employees who grounded a public flight.
