Indonesia's largest newspaper launches 50 apps powered by Toronto's Polar Mobile
Kompas, Indonesia's largest newspaper, is expanding their mobile presence with the launch of 50 new Apps across iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry, PlayBook, Android, Windows and Nokia devices with Toronto startup Polar Mobile.
"We want to provide Kompas' content to as many devices as our audiences want, regardless of brand or operating system. Polar Mobile allows us to bring 50 apps to market quickly and with high quality," says Edi Taslim, Director of Kompas.com. "Polar's added services such as ad serving and reporting provide us with the opportunity to monetize our Apps, as well as gain insight into our target audience and the content they desire most."
Asia Pacific is set to become one of the largest smartphone markets by 2012, reports Canalys. With a total of 178 million mobile phone subscribers as of now, total wireless subscribers in Indonesia are expected to reach 233 million by 2014.
"Polar Mobile is excited to be launching 50 new Apps with Kompas and proud that they are growing their partnership with our company," says Kunal Gupta, Chief Executive Officer, Polar Mobile. "Indonesia is a key market for our company globally and we could not think of a better partner for us to grow with."
Last month, Polar opened a new office in Dubai with the plan to launch mobile Apps for 100 media companies in the Middle East region.
