ING Direct collabs with RedFlagDeals to offer Canada's first ever bank related group buying deal

by Knowlton Thomas

ING Direct Canada and's Deal of the Day have partnered to treat Canadians to a free group-buying deal.

Up until July 25, ING is offering $185 for opening a Thrive chequing account and setting up a single payroll direct deposit. All you gotta do is "purchase" the Deal of the Day for free. And the direct deposit doesn't even need to be set up right away; users have until August 31 to complete the process.

"Deal of the Day is about offering value and encouraging Canadians to try new products and services," said Nicolas Gaudreau, Vice-President, Digital and Print Media of Yellow Pages Group, owner of "This free ING DIRECT deal gives consumers the opportunity to build a long-standing relationship with a service that will reward them with both short and long-term savings."

"Social buying and direct banking share a lot of the same founding principles - innovation, giving the upper hand to consumers, and using social channels to give customers more information to make better decisions about their money," said Peter Aceto, President and CEO of ING Direct. "These deals give broader access to products and services for consumers, and for businesses, they offer more opportunity to connect with new customers—one of ING DIRECT's key focuses. We're thrilled to be working with on this deal because of the outstanding reputation it has built as a source of information for Canadians who are looking to save their money—a cause the ING DIRECT brand has championed for more than 14 years," said Aceto.

The number 185 was selected because ING found that on average Canadians pay $185 annually in fees for their chequing accounts. They pay zero fees at ING.
