Waterloo based Intelligent Mechatronic Systems Inc. has announced a new partnership with Bell Mobility for the distribution of their iLane product. The iLane can control smartphones with simple voice commands. The device is designed for use inside vehicles improving its user’s productivity and safety while driving.
Drivers are notified of new e-mails which can be read to them. They can then reply, dictating a response all while keeping their eyes on the road. iLane can also be used to answer incoming calls, manage e-mail inboxes, calendars and retrieve and read news, sports and weather services on-demand.
The iLane is already available through American distributers, but Bell Mobility will mark the first in store presence for the iLane, which will sell for $599.
Intelligent Mechatronic Systems is negotiating the distribution of their product with other American and Canadian carriers, but the deal with Bell was the first to materialize. “They saw right up front the benefits…the deal with Bell came together pretty quickly”, said Ken Truffen, IMS Vice-President of Marketing.
The company which has been operating since 199 develops devices related to automotive safety; some of its other products include airbag deployment devices and seat belt reminders. It is also trialing DriveSync with insurance companies, a device that monitors peoples driving habits.
