October 6, 2009 Update: iPhone coming to Telus and Bell before Christmas
File this under the “heavily rumoured” column. Apparently two sales clerks at a Telus store in downtown Montreal told Technocite reporter Roberto Rocha that both Telus and Bell will be carrying the iconic phone once their respective HSPA networks are up and running.
Of course, this could be just two employees shooting their mouths off or staving off retail boredom, but it’s fair to guess that the same form of contracts currently winding down south of the border are in play in Canada. Rogers and Fido have had an exclusive grip on the iPhone for 2 years, and it’s possible Apple is looking to spread to even more customers. But since this is Canada, don’t expect anything inthe way of competition over wireles rates and data plans. You’ll just be able to buy the same great phone, saddled with equally disasterous access, in more places. Or not.
