Is Gist the next acquisition target for hungry Research in Motion?

Following RIM's most recent acquisition—that of the Astonishing Tribe—the Canadian BlackBerry maker may already have its sights set on another target.
Gist, a Seattle startup that helps users organize business contacts, is in talks to be acquired by RIM, as GigaOM's Om Malik reported earlier today. Gist is appealing to RIM because it's developed a mobile and web app that helps users organize information flowing through email and social networking sites such as Facebook, LinkedIn, and Twitter. The startup wrangled $4 million in venture capitalism over the summer, following a previous round of nearly $7 million in 2009.
The deal appears close to closing but nothing is guaranteed, Om suggests, citing unnamed sources.
RIM's most recent acquisitions are in sync with this one, as the tech titan aims to retain its dominance and continue developing an industry-leading software platform for its smartphones and future tablet.
Tip: Google search "Gist" if you need to find out information about the company. But don't Google Image search it.
