Jostle gives Medicine Hat employees the big picture

by Liam Britten

The City of Medicine Hat had a problem: employees weren’t very well connected to each other, and it was hurting productivity. They lacked “organizational clarity,” unable to see what their colleagues were up to, and thus were unable to make fully informed decisions of their own.

But that’s in the past. Today, Medicine Hat employees are able to communicate and collaborate with each other efficiently and comprehensively thanks to Jostle, new enterprise collaboration software using cloud technology.

“The City of Medicine Hat was looking for a way to engage employees and help connect them to the entire organization,” said Ray Barnard, chief administrative officer for the City of Medicine Hat, in a statement. “An internal communications survey was conducted a few years ago and employees indicated that a visual representation of the organization was needed and Jostle provided this solution quickly and seamlessly for the City.”

Jostle has allowed the 1,200 employees of The City of Medicine Hat stay connected, no matter what their job or work environment. Jostle is available on mobile devices, which is useful for the many workers out in the field the city employs. Any employee can easily find contact information for a colleague, regardless of department, and even find fellow employees based on their job description or function.

But Jostle is being used as more than a Rolodex by Medicine Hat employees. They can stay connected through an internal engagement platform. New employees can get the lay of the land and orient themselves with new co-workers with Jostle. It can spell out working relationships, reporting structures and team rosters for projects. As well, managers and supervisors can track project progress and easily find out which employees are working on those projects.

“Being able to search the organization by job function or department has made it much easier for our employees to connect with each other to get the job done,” said Colleen Brown, corporate communications manager for the City of Medicine Hat, in the same statement. “Jostle has provided a platform for the City to display our employee contact information in one place, making it easier to connect to the right people.”
