Launch @ GROW Startup Profiles: New Brunswick’s Zaptap, which makes everyday products smarter

Techvibes is a media sponsor of the upcoming GROW Conference in Vancouver and will be highlighting the 15 Canadian startups that are selected to showcase at the conference’s opening reception at Launch @ GROW on August 17th.

Vancouver’s Cargoh is one of the fifteen startups that has been selected and may be one of four chosen to pitch live on stage at the GROW Conference on August 18th.

Fredericton, New Brunswick-born startup Zaptap was founded in 2010 by Yan Simard, who aims to turn NFC-capable smartphones into tools that benefit both consumers and retailers.

Using Zaptap occurs in two simple steps. First look for the Zaptap tag on a product, then tap your phonr on the tag. And voila! You now have enhanced product information including videos of the item in action, user reviews, special offers and coupons, and the ability to share your experiences with your friends—and solicit their advice and feedback—all in real-time.

Zaptap is completely free for consumers. The startup’s service is currently in a limited beta, open to select retailers. It aims to help retailers by providing them with some of the most specific consumer information ever, going being a simple checkin to truly identifying shoppers’ needs, wants, and habits.
