Disney's $700 Million acquisiton of Club Penguin put Kelowna on the map and UWC Entertainment's Ken Hartfield is hoping to keep the spotlight on Kelowna with Lemur Bay.

Lemur Bay launched this week and instead of friendly penguins, it features talking Lemur avatars in a server based chat room. From their press release:

The Children’s Network features Lemur Bay, a safe, fast and fun website for children that features Talking Lemurs.  Today’s Internet-savvy children want more than just bubble chat, which according to Ken Hartfield is “antiquated technology.”  Mr. Hartfield has been spearheading this project for the past 2.5 years. UWC Entertainment has designed and built its own game engine by utilizing the latest in web technology.

“We have implemented the first server-based web chat room that features talking avatars that will have the capability of speaking in 22 different languages.” says Mr. Hartfield.  This is a major international accomplishment in addition to the speed with which the scenes change.  The majority of children’s websites have loading times between scenes.  However, in Lemur Bay, scene changes are instant, with the exception of downloading games.

So, could Lemur Bay be the next Club Penguin??
