LinkedIn to Open Large Office in Downtown Toronto Next Year, Sources Say

Last week, Techvibes broke the news that Amazon plans to open a massive office in the currently under-construction Telus Garden development in the heart of downtown Vancouver.

This week, Techvibes has learned that another US tech titan is plotting a major office in a Canadian metropolis.

Professionally minded social network LinkedIn is planning to open a 38,000-square-foot office at 250 Yonge Street in Toronto's Eaton Centre, according to sources familiar with the matter. Based on an average of 175 square feet of office space per person in Toronto's downtown core, we estimate the LinkedIn office will employ between 200 and 300 workers.

The office is expected to open in mid 2014, suggests Colliers' Chris Fyvie.

LinkedIn, which is valued at more than $25 billion, this week posted its quarterly earnings report. The company generated nearly $400 million in revenue and generated a profit.

Back in Vancouver, Amazon has committed to a staggering 91,000 square feet and may take up to 156,000 square feet "as required." The office could house well over 1,000 workers.
