LiquidPlanner - Project Managment is about people

Posted by Rob Lewis

Kicking off the Productivity Tools & Platforms session is Bellevue's LiquidPlanner. LiquidPlanner is a hosted, web-based project management application, featuring scheduling, time tracking, and collaboration tools.

CEO and co-founder Charles Seybold explained that LiquidPlanner targets teams of 10-50 users in SMBs across industry verticals and is uniquely suited for teams that need more advanced planning but who do not want the complexity, cost, or single-user model associated with MS Project.

Unique to LiquidPlanner is "probabilistic" real-time scheduling - Seybold calls it the "World's Smartest Scheduling Engine" - that lets you adapt your plan based on real-life change and uncertainty.

Workspaces have a free 30-day trial, then a per-seat subscription fee. Fee is $35/user/month. There is a 12 month pre-pay option which is $300/user/year. During his presentation Seybold announced new unlimited free project portals that will allow users to extend their colloration portals to their clients. Smart idea.

Competitors include desktop applications like MS Project, online MS Project clones like fellow Fast Pitch Forum presenter Daptiv, web-based tasklists like 37signals' Basecamp, and project management substitutes like MS Excel and the traditional pen & paper. According to Seybold, they get their best customers from Basecamp because their users out-grow it so fast.

Among LiquidPlanner's marquee customer list is Intuit, News Corporation, AOL, FedEx Kinkos, and Motorola. LiquidPlanner is angel and founder funded to the tune of $2.1 Million.
