On Wednesday May 12 OpenMusicMedia held their most recent meetup at C'est What on Front Street East in downtown Toronto. Jonas Woost, formerly of Last.fm was the featured guest speaker.
Obviously, technology has had a huge impact on how music is made, distributed and enjoyed. For those who don't know, OpenMusicMedia is an "informal meetup to discuss, explore and shape the future of digital music and media."
Open to people in the music industry, artists, bloggers, music geeks technologists and entrepreneurs, the group serves as a meeting point for people interested in the future of digital music and related media. The goal is to provide a relaxed and informal environment to start conversations and promote openness and learning.
In fact, OpenMusicMedia (Toronto) is based on OpenMusicMedia London, which was founded by that evening's speaker Jonas.
Jonas Woost has been active in the music industry since the age of sixteen. In 2005 he was Head of Music of Last.fm. Today he finds himself based in Vancouver (but continuing to travel) running his own digital media consultancy.
During this meetup Jonas introduced the topic of location-based web and mobile applications and how the music industry may be able to use them.
