Lypp Service for BlackBerries

Posted by Rob Lewis on Tue, September 25, 2007 1:36 PM · Filed under Vancouver , Wireless , Start-up · 5 Comments

Vancouver-based telecommunications disruptor Gaboogie has been renamed Lypp and their new service will use existing data connections and applications available on cell phones and mobile devices to give users features and pricing that the wireless carriers don’t, won’t or can’t offer.

Lypp announced yesterday the launch of its first service, which eliminates wireless long distance costs for Canadian BlackBerry users. Lypp’s service works on any recent BlackBerry model and does not require installation of additional software.

“While other countries are seeing their telecommunications costs falling, Canadian wireless carriers continue to charge exorbitant rates for long distance, as high as $0.30 per minute” said Lypp Co-Founder & CEO Erik Lagerway. “We find this situation unacceptable and unfair, and our solution is a simple alternative that BlackBerry users can set up in seconds and use for calls to anywhere in North America with no long distance charges and the call quality and reliability of a regular phone call."

To kick start their launch they're offering the service for free until October 31, 2007.

Thanks Rob. We're getting a great response so far.

Couple of things for the Vancouver crowd...

We will be presenting at the inaugural Launch Party event at Section (3) in Yaletown on Thursday evening. Details available in the Facebook event listing:

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=7221205358

Also, we are creating a Lypp Evangelist program for early users. The program will be limited in numbers but members will get early access to new features, preferential pricing when we roll out paid packages, and their voice will be heard first and louder when it comes to feedback and product suggestions. If anyone would like to be included in this program please contact me at dan@lypp.com.
