Mark MacLeod, the Startup CFO, Joins FreshBooks

Mark MacLeod, known as the "Startup CFO," has joined Toronto-based cloud accounting firm FreshBooks.

He's been a partner at Montreal's Real Ventures since 2010, a company that has invested in hot Canadian startups such as Frank & Oak and Cinemagram, both of which are finalists in this year's Canadian Startup Awards. (Real Ventures is also a finalist.) But he's moving on.

"As I looked back and reflected on things over the end of year holidays, I found myself missing operating inside companies," he writes on his blog. "I’ve been fortunate and privileged to be part of the Real team and to work with so many great entrepreneurs. But it was time for me to hunker down and focus on just one company as a full time team member."

And here's the announcement:

I am pleased to announce that I am joining FreshBooks, a company that needs no introduction, especially to the Canadian startup community. I have been close to this company for a number of years and have watched it grow. It is a truly special company. And even though it’s been around for a while, it’s just getting started.

Mark says he'll be leading business and corporate development at the Canadian company. He'll also continue to be involved as a venture partner with Real.
