MEC takes to the streets with QR Codes
Founded by Mountain Equipment Co-op (MEC) and the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, The Big Wild is a conservation movement that makes it easy for Canadians to stand up for wilderness protection campaigns.
And now they're making it even easier for the mobile tech-set to get involved.
MEC is jumping on the hot QR code trend and plastering mysterious posters around town in seven Canadian cities.

No doubt the unbranded, secretive posters will pique the interest of savvy smart-phone users and once they scan them they'll end up on mobile-friendly pages like this where they can sign a petition in support of protecting the Flathead River Valley in Southeastern BC. Scanners in Eastern Canada will be served up a petition in support of the Restigouche watershed in New Brunswick.
While QR code campaigns aren't exactly new, they are definitely becoming more mainstream as evidenced by this Calvin Klein billboard in Manhattan last month.
As far as I know, this is first environmental campaign to use QR codes in Canada. Kudos to MEC for protecting our wilderness and trying something new.
