Tap Map Water App Vancouver sustainabilityAs part of their mandate to improve sustainability in the region, Metro Vancouver has recently released an app that will help Lower Mainlanders find access to free tap water in the city.

Metro Vancouver’s Tap Map contains the locations of over 550 public drinking fountains from West Vancouver to Langley. Many of the featured locations are in public spaces like parks, libraries, and other municpal buildings, but also include recreation centres and outdoor pools. Metro Vancouver also encourages restaurants and businesses that are willing to refill water bottles to register themselves with Tap Map. Users can also send information on any taps that aren’t included in the app.

Tap Map is perfect for people who are out in the city -- on their bicycles, out with the family, or in need of refilling their reusable containers.

By working together and taking advantage of the benefits of our own water supply, we can reduce greenhouse gases, prevent plastic bottles from ending up in our landfills and oceans, and save money.

According to Metro Vancouver, we enjoy some of the cleanest and freshest water in the world. There’s no reason to buy water that comes packaged from other parts of the world.

Past generations had the will and wisdom to protect our precious water supply from development and public access, which means that it is naturally clean and clear, and needs little treatment.

Our Water originates from rainwater and snow melt from the pristine mountains of the North Shore and Coquitlam area and is protected every step of the way. Water is stored in the Capilano, Seymour and Coquitlam reservoirs, part of five hundred and eight five square kilometers of mountain watersheds closed to the public.

Also, look for Metro Vancouver’s Tap Water Team out and about this summer. The Team will be “talking tap” with the Metro Vancouver Water Wagon at community events across the region.
