Microsoft buys More Than Half A Million IPv4 Addresses From Nortel

In the Nortel bankruptcy proceeding which seems to never conclude, it seems there is still some interest to be wrung from it.

As part of the bankruptcy settlement, Microsoft has agreed to purchase a whopping 666,624 IPv4 addresses for $7.5 million (or ~$11.25 each).  With the supply of IPv4 addresses tapped, and the move to IPv6 infrastructure costing a lot more than $7.5 million, Microsoft has played the prudent investor card and seized an opportunity.

This is not the first or last of such dealings, as IPv4 address brokers are popping up to take advantage of this free market opportunity.  What do you think - Enterprising companies, or digital vultures?
