Microsoft scores yet more licensing agreements, this time with Acer and Viewsonic
Following suit of HTC, Velocity Micro, and General Dynamics, two more Android-associated companies are now under a licensing agreement with Microsoft.
Acer and Viewsonic will now be dishing out royalties to Microsoft, furthering the software company's ability to benefit from competitor Google's success.
“We are pleased that Acer is taking advantage of our industrywide licensing program established to help companies address Android’s IP issues,” said Horacio Gutierrez, corporate vice president and deputy general counsel of Intellectual Property and Licensing at Microsoft. “This agreement is an example of how industry leaders can reach commercially reasonable arrangements that address intellectual property.”
Microsoft is also going after Samsung, utilizing its war chest of a patent portfolio to squeeze dollars from firms leveraging Android technology. At this rate, Windows Phone 7 can continue to flop and Microsoft will still make a killing off the mobile market.
