Created at iPhoneDevCamp 2008 by Nitobi, PhoneGap is an open source initiative for bringing native device capabilities to mobile browsers. PhoneGap apps are authored in HTML and JavaScript, but still take advantage of features like geolocation, camera, vibration, local storage and sound.
PhoneGap gained widespread recognition in April when the project won the LaunchPad competition at Web 2.0 Expo. Since then, hundreds of PhoneGap applications have been built and submitted to the Apple app store.
