MobileSyrup Acquires BetaKit from Postmedia

by Techvibes NewsDesk

Canadian mobile news blog MobileSyrup has acquired BetaKit.

BetaKit was a startup blog in Canada until it was abruptly shut down by Postmedia in March. It then merged with the Financial Post, much like Sprouter did two years prior when it was dismantled after five years of losing money.

The merge was messy: BetaKit automatically redirected to "FP Startups," which caused hundreds of article links to result in 404 errors on the Financial Post's website. The publication also abruptly abandoned its Twitter and Facebook followers.

Here to clean things up, MobileSyrup has now acquired most of BK for an indisclosed sum—specifically its brand, URL, social media accounts, and some content. However, MobileSyrup did not buy Insights, a paid subscription service launched by BK.

MobileSyrup was founded in 2008 by Ian Hardy.
