Mobilicity to sell phones at hmv locations

In the MP3, iTunes era, how have music stores remained relevant? The short answer is that they’re abandoning music.

hmv, for instance, has partnered with Mobilicity to sell the company’s phones at their Ottawa and Toronto locations. It’s just the latest step in hmv’s efforts to diversify; 10 years ago I remember going to hmv and finding only CDs; now they’re selling video games, DVDs, posters, t-shirts, and finally, cell phones.

From Market News:

"There are a lot of synergies between Mobilicity, hmv and the customers we share," says Mobilicity's Vice President of Sales, Doug Perry. "As wireless continues to play a growing role in Canadians' lives, we want to make it easy and affordable for consumers to get quality 3G wireless service where they shop."

"hmv is thrilled to be partnering with Mobilicity as part of our ongoing evolution as a premiere entertainment retail destination," adds Nick Williams, President of hmv Canada. "It's important to us that we fulfill our customers' mobile new media demands, and we believe that our partnership with Mobilicity will do just that."

Since Mobilicity has launched in Vancouver and Edmonton, it’s not hard to imagine hmv stores out west selling Mobilicity products soon.
