Montreal students win Great Canadian Appathon grand prize with mobile game Trace Racer

Over the weekend of September 30th, more than 400 college and university students competed in the Great Canadian Appathon to create a mobile game in under 48 hours.

At the Grand Finale  on November 2nd, the top three teams showed off the games they developed to a panel of judges. Montreal’s team “Drop Table," who created the game “Trace Racer,” took home the top prize of $25,000.

The Great Canadian Appathon also awarded $10,000 to the second place team “Resistor 5” for their game “Ludicrous Archery" and another 10 winners were each awarded $1,000 for a variety of category prizes including “Best Windows Phone 7 Game,"  “Best Technical Game Play,” and “Best Power & Performance Game."

The winning games were evaluated on criteria such as the degree of innovation, the fun and entertainment factor, the level of art and design polish, as well as stability, all under the theme of sports.
