RIMCanada's Blackberry maker, the venerable Research In Motion, has been graced with an extended deadline from India's government.

RIM now has until January 31st, 2011, to satisfy demands by the government to have access to its encrypted e-mail and instant messaging services, according to a report. Quoth The Globe and Mail:

The Indian government had threatened to shut down the BlackBerry services in that country if access to the services wasn't provided by the Canadian smart phone maker.

RIM has been in a stand-off with the Indian security agencies, which cite the threat of terrorism for their demand for access to encrypted messages sent by BlackBerrys.

It has been reported that RIM has granted manual access to its messenger service with a pledge of real-time access early next year, but the BlackBerry maker hasn't confirmed it.

Last week, similar news came about as the United Arab Emirates withdrew their threatened ban on Blackberry services.
