Moving seats coming to a movie theatre near you

The Financial Post reported today that Motion simulator equipment maker D-Box Technologies has signed a deal to put 250 of its moving seats in 10 Cineplex Entertainment theatres across Canada, securing the country’s biggest movie projection company as a customer in a bid to generate real profit.

Longueuil's D-Box, which makes seats that move in synchronization with action on movie and video game screens, said it will put the equipment in over the next year. The parties have also agreed on an option to double the number of theatres.

Signing Cineplex could prove to be the beachhead D-Box needs in Canada as it fights to squeeze out a profit after years of capital spending outlays. Toronto-based Cineplex owns or leases 129 theatres with 1,342 screens from B.C. to Quebec. It serves 70 million customers every year.
