MySnowBuddy Hopes to Get More Lower Mainlanders out on the Slopes

Vancouver-based MySnowBuddy launched the MySnowBuddy Facebook application today for skiers and snowboarders in the Lower Mainland. MySnowBuddy allows users to organize or join ride shares, network with other outdoor enthusiasts, buy and sell ski and snowboard gear, check local snow conditions, and track when friends and family are riding. Grant calls it "a positive, locally developed tool, that pushes a green and healthy lifestyle."

The most obvious advantage of the app seems to be the Ride Share tool - travelling to and from the mountains with gear can be tricky via public transit, and car pooling has saves both money and carbon emissions. The developers hope that ride sharing opportunities will help local riders hit the hills more frequently. Developer Kenny Grant is hoping MySnowBuddy will prove valuable to Vancouverites next winter:

"We think this tool will be extremely useful during the olympics where parking and transportation will be difficult and near impossible."

In the spirit of beta, MySnowBuddy will enter everyone who resports a new bug into a draw for a lift pass to Cypress.
