Back from Hiatus, Nest Protect Now Available in Canada – Minus One Key Feature

by Rob Lewis | Technology

The Nest Protect is now back on sale in Canada after a two-month absence due to being pulled over safety issues.

The smoke and carbon monoxide detector, a little brother to the Nest thermostat, was pulled from shelves on April 3 after it was discovered that Nest Wave—a gesture-based feature designed to silence the alarm with the wave of a hand—did not work correctly.

The new Protect lacks Wave, which was one of the product's key differentiating features, but as a result it's also $10 cheaper, now retailing online for $109.

Nest sold more than 30,000 units—including the $249 thermostat—in roughly four months in Canada.
