Less 10 months after launching in Canada, Netflix has reached the one-million member mark. The achievement was reached in late July, when Amanda Bell James from Flin Flon, Manitoba won a lifetime membership for signing up as the millionth member.
"We're thrilled that Canadians have embraced Netflix so rapidly, and are we're equally proud to have welcomed one million members in such a short period," said Reed Hastings, Netflix CEO and co-founder. "Our focus remains on building up the breadth and range of movies and TV shows to watch instantly, as well as constantly improving the experience, and we look forward to welcoming many more new members."
"I'm excited to be the millionth Canadian member," said Amanda Bell James. "Netflix is something I enjoy with my family and I look forward to continue watching our favorite movies and TV shows via Netflix in the future."
Netflix has 25 million members in the U.S., so about 2.5 million in Canada would be proportional. Netflix is well on its way, given its short time north of the border, and its recent new deals to add newer and better TV shows to its library.
