JOB SUMMARY (MISSION)

Administrator position, within the Information Technology department, responsible for the administration of all servers and network infrastructure supported by CGA-Canada. Works within the guidelines and standards set by the senior management of Information Technology department.

Specific Responsibilities and Resulting Outcomes:

  1. Maintains and enhances a network environment that includes Windows 2003/2008 running Active Directory and TCP/IP protocols
  2. Performance/Availability/Security monitoring and maintenance of the network infrastructure including: Switches, Routers, Firewalls, ISP links, DNS, VPN Gateways, and PBX
  3. Performance/Availability/Capacity/Security monitoring and maintenance of server systems including but not limited to: Microsoft Operations Manager, Exchange 2007, SQL 2005, Web Servers, SharePoint, ISA Server, Terminal Services (Citrix Metaframe), Commvault backup, McAfee Anti-Virus Programs, Blackberries and File/Print Services
  4. Performs Disaster Recovery operations including testing, planning, backup systems, and offsite storage
  5. Supports the Systems Operations Manager in operational planning, research, and evaluating systems and network technologies
  6. Coordinates the installation of new desktops and servers and the cascading of the old systems
  7. Coordinates and supports the end user support/helpdesk team.
  8. Responsible for securing and updating patches of all desktops and servers
  9. Responsible for identifying fault locations and problem solving of the server/network infrastructure
  10. Availability for after hours on-call support is required
  11. Participate in projects to integrate new and existing services and applications onto the Internet and internal LAN
  12. Works with the Web Services Administrator to be his backup
  13. Administration of computer room equipment including IBM servers, KVMs, SAN, tape libraries, and UPSes
  14. Administration of Internet equipment including Checkpoint and Fortinet Firewalls, Radware Linkproof devices, Adonis DNS server, Cisco switches, and Shiva & F5 VPN Gateways
  15. Administration of VMWare host and guest Operating Systems
  16. Develop and administer shell scripts for automating routine tasks

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computing Science or Computer Systems Diploma or a related field
  • MCSE certification and 2 years experience or 3+ years proven administration experience in a Windows 2000/2003 environment
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP and related services including DNS, DHCP, routing, firewall and VPN/encryption as well as a good understanding of the OSI reference model
  • Support/Troubleshooting experience with MS server systems in a MS Office suite environment, especially with network related issues
  • Project management experience with IT projects
  • Experience working with Internet Security

Skills and Abilities:

  • Able to manage the on-going operation of servers in a Microsoft Windows Server environment
  • Able to commission and recover servers
  • Able to design, install and update the network infrastructure
  • Able to work effectively with other Information Technology staff, users and clients
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
