News in Short: Canadians spend $11 billion on electronics in 2010, BlackBerry App World updates

Canadians love TVs and PCs

Canadians spent more than $11 billion on consumer electronics in last year. Televisions and personal computers were the two most popular items. Overall spending on consumer electronics in Canada is actually down slightly from 2009 - but only one percent, a number probably accountable for decreases in the prices of many items.

For example, a 32-inch flat panel television was over $700 in 2007, but only $450 in 2009, and just $350 last year. Sales were up, but with prices down, overall money spent still decreased. The same can be said for notebook computers.

BlackBerry App World 2.1 now available

Research in Motion officially released its latest version of BlackBerry App World, version 2.1.

Its most noteworthy new feature is support for in-app payments, which seems to be a growing trend. Also, RIM has tweaked its filtering system for Featured Apps to increase relevancy based on location and other factors.
