You have to consider the privacy concerns though. Every time you park, you enter your license plate number. Incrementally ratcheting up the surveillance technology. Something to hide? Of course not. Cynical about how that data might be used? Yes.
I totally agree...with big brother watching every license plate that parks downtown there are serious concerns about what they could do with that data. When I asked Allan and Dale about how they handle the privacy side they indicated that since the Calgary Parking Authority have sworn in Officers they are bound to uphold the law just as any Police Officer. Also, they mentioned that license plate information is deemed to be public (which a few people in the audience contested) and their legal team had fully scoped their position.
I don't have the background to start debating legality on this type of thing, but I guess they have done their homework to make sure they are onside with the law?
