Nuance acquires swift typing app Swype for $102 million
Nuance has acquired Swype for $102.5 million.
The deal was first reported by Michael Arrington on Uncrunched and then confirmed by the Wall Street Journal. Swype has raised $14 million in investments since 2008—although the company was founded in 2002—last raising funds in July. Nearly 100 million devices have downloaded the app, which makes typing on touchscreens much faster (for some people).
Swype founder Randy Marsden is from Edmonton and is currently the CEO of Cleankeys and sits on Swype's board. He isn't involved in day-to-day operations of the company, but fortunately still holds a stake—so he gets to enjoy the fruits of his labour with this exit.
