OCRI kicks off Ottawa Entrepreneur Week by Celebrating 10 Local Innovative Startups
Today OCRI kicks off the first-ever Ottawa Entrepreneur Week with a launch party this evening, where 10 companies recognized by the Regional Innovation Centre for Ottawa and Eastern Ontario as “ones to watch” in the region’s entrepreneurial community will be celebrated.

Tech startups on the list inclde BlackCherry Digital Media, a gaming studio and digital content company; Gazaro, which offers real-time pricing data on retail deals; VG Omniglobe Solutions, which provides software for defense, air traffic control and public safety; and Wedding Republic, an online cash registry for weddings.
Held from November 14th to the 20th, Ottawa Entrepreneur Week is aimed at turning up the heat on entrepreneurship in and around the city.
“This is the city’s first-ever Ottawa Entrepreneur Week, and we built it like a startup,” said Bruce Lazenby, President and CEO of OCRI. “Over the last month we’ve marshalled every resource we could across Ottawa and our surrounding region, and benefited from fast and effective collaboration from an amazing array of business, academic and municipal organizations devoted to fostering and promoting entrepreneurship. This week signals a new era for Ottawa’s entrepreneurial innovators. And look out for 2012. This is definitely going to be an annual event.”
The final featured event of Ottawa Entrepreneur Week will be the TalentBridge Ottawa Community Challenge, a three-phase competition for Ottawa-area post-secondary students and recent graduates who have an active interest in social innovation and entrepreneurship.
