One Million .CA Domains, Here We Come

The Canadian Internet Registration Authority (CIRA) named Byron G. Holland its new President and CEO on Monday, January 21st. Holland succeeds CIRA's interim Chief Operating Officer, Ron Harbottle, who will retire from his post after eight years of service. Holland has over 17 years experience in the technology, finance and retail sectors and joins CIRA from Futura Rewards, where he was a founding partner. His appointment marks the culmination of an extensive, nationwide executive search. CIRA is the not-for-profit, member-driven organization responsible for the management of Canada’s dot-ca namespace.

This new appointment comes with CIRA on the verge of hitting the one million dot-ca domain milestone this Spring. Based on current new registration and renewal projections, the one-millionth dot-ca domain should be registered in late March/early April 2008. In celebration of this milestone, CIRA is inviting current dot-ca domain holders to enter a contest to win one of five Apple MacBook computers. All contest entrants have to do is tell CIRA about their dot-ca website. Profiles of the winners will appear as part of CIRA’s National advertising campaign celebrating this milestone. Sounds like a great deal – winners get some valuable press (& traffic) for their site and a MacBook.

Thanks for the heads up on the contest. I read about it here this morning and received an email from CIRA with details this afternoon. I want a MacBook!
