Open-Sourced Comedy Community

Web 2.0 meets the world of comedy with a new site originating out of Vancouver called ChompChompDead. It launched last week and they're calling themselves an open-sourced comedy community.

The concept: ChompChompDead has a Cast of 10 comedy writers that submit articles/stories/jokes for readers to vote on. Every week, the lowest scoring Cast Member gets the boot, while the highest-performing community members replace and remain alive on the site to write another day. Think BillBoard Music Chart meets Last Comic Standing.

The current Cast members appear to be the original crew from launch but it shouldn't take long for the community to start ousting a couple incumbents and working their way up the list. First week traffic has been impressive with an Alexa rank of 250,000 for the week.

ChompChompDead should cater to anyone with an unhealthy addiction to satire. There are no creative standards - so reader beware. The site is a joint effort between Michael Parkatti (formerly with Cambrian House) and some creative types from Vancouver Film School lead by Josh Tuftin.

I love the concept of this. Seems like they post a lot throughout the day, so much like Digg, this will keep me coming back. Like the Onion the comedy on this site is IMHO fresh. Not sure if it will appeal to a massive audience, but a large one will hopefully end up following/participating. Good work guys.
